JOHN DAY — The city of John Day has budgeted the sale of the Seneca and John Day cybermills into their 2024-25 budget, throwing the future of the two establishments into question.
The Seneca and John Day cybermills, along with the Prairie City cybermill were constructed as an internet access point for those in the county who have less than adequate internet service. Both Seneca and Prairie City’s cybermills are up and running, John Day’s however has faced stagnancy and delays for years.
John Day city manager Melissa Bethel said that the sale of the Seneca cybermill, which is owned by the city is an almost certainty. The John Day cybermill’s sale is reflected in this fiscal year’s budget, but the sale of that city-owned property is less than certain.
