A psychopathic sexual predator who repeatedly violated a woman while on parole for a previous rape has been jailed for 15 years.
The Crown argued this morning in the High Court at Dunedin that 47-year-old Dwayne Douglas Keats should be sentenced to preventive detention, an indefinite prison term reserved for the country s most high-risk criminals.
But Justice Gerald Nation opted – by a narrow margin – for the finite jail sentence, with a minimum non-parole period of eight years. ....

Ashtead Group Q3 Profit Down; Expects FY21 Results Ahead Of Previous Expectations
Earnings per share dropped to 35.7 pence from 37.0 pence a year ago.
Underlying profit before taxation was 225 million pounds, compared to 257 million pounds a year earlier. Underlying earnings per share were 38.2 pence, compared to 42.3 pence last year.
Underlying EBITDA dropped 5 percent to 539 million pounds from 584 million pounds in the prior year.
Revenue edged down 1 percent to 1.21 billion pounds from prior year s 1.25 billion pounds. Rental revenue dropped 1 percent from last year to 1.08 billion pounds.
Looking ahead, Ashtead s Chief Executive Brendan Horgan said, With our businesses performing well, we now expect full year results ahead of our previous expectations. ....

Two men from Cuba said they were drifting at sea for 10 days before the U.S. Coast Guard found them floating in a small rustic boat off the Florida Keys Monday.
A Coast Guard crew from Station Islamorada responded to the men after a civilian boater saw them and reported their location to the agency.
They were about eight miles off Plantation Key in the Upper Keys, the Coast Guard said. ....
