New 'Dismas House' dedicated entirely to formerly incarcerated women

Vermont Business Magazine Jim Curran, Executive Director of Dismas of Vermont, Inc (DOV), has announced the planned March 2021 opening in Rutland of a fifth “Dismas House.” The facility, to be located on Royce Street, will be dedicated entirely to meeting the unique reintegration challenges facing formerly incarcerated women.
Dismas of Vermont currently operates four residential homes in Vermont that assist individuals transitioning from incarceration back into the community.
The organization, founded 34 years ago by Rita and Frank McCaffrey of Rutland, provides community-based support and encouragement to persons committed to returning to productive roles, all in furtherance of Dismas’ core mission of achieving lasting reconciliation between former offenders and their ....

InspirationField honors Steven Encinias with Inspiration Award

Steven Encinias was awarded the Inspiration Award at InspirationField s virtual annual banquet  Dec. 7.
The award is presented annually to an InspirationField employee who upholds the mission of InspirationField and goes above and beyond to fulfill their everyday duties. 
“We are very proud of Steven and all his hard work, Program Supervisor Brian Gauna said. Steven goes above and beyond for the individuals we support, and he is very deserving of this award.”
Throughout the year, employees are nominated by their fellow co-workers for the Employee of the Quarter Award. Each recipient receives a $100 bonus and becomes eligible for the annual Inspiration Award, which comes with a $500 bonus. ....

In a curious twist, a “reformed” criminal hired by the District of Columbia’s chief legal officer to help curb violence has been arrested and charged with murder. The case involves a taxpayer-funded public safety program known as Cure the Streets launched by D.C. Attorney General Karl Racine to reduce gun violence by treating it as a disease that can be interrupted and stopped from spreading. Cure the Streets typically hires men and women with criminal histories as violence interrupters because they know first-hand about the challenges that residents of crime-infested communities live with. Racine, who was reelected to a second term in 2018, says the transformed criminals hired by his program perform community-driven public safety work that can avoid using police. ....
