SPG and other levels of security in India: The Government of India based on the recommendations of the Union Home Ministry and the state governments provides various levels of security to VVIPs, VIPs and high-risk individuals, following a detailed assessment of the threat to their lives by the concerned agencies, local police and respective state government.
PM Narendra Modi's security details: PM Modi is protected by the Special Protection Group (SPG), which is an agency of the Government of India. The SPG was created in 1988 by an Act of the Parliament of India to protect the Prime Minister and his immediate family members who always live with him at his official and personal residences.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday addressing the Rajya Sabha on the amendent of the SPG Act. According to the amendment, the SPG will now protect the prime minister and members of his immediate family residing with him at his official residence. It will also provide security to former prime ministers and their immediate family members staying with them at the residence allotted for a period of five years from the date on which they cease to hold the office.
