It is why im committed to opening up 1,000 new shelter beds to get people off the streets. It is why im committed to master leasing so many buildings that might be available like the Abigail Hotel where we are standing in, where we have access to 62 new units that will help people who are formerly homeless get a great and safe and affordable place to call home without the social services , so its not as expensive as someone who might need a lot more support and wraparound services. It would seem to me at least that it would be very appropriate that the commission hear an overall broad plan as to the types of services felt to be needed in the city and how we cant reach all of them. Clearly the original intent of the building has sort of been changed by urgent needs otherwise in which we were supposed to be bringing back those who were housed outside on a chronic basis to San Francisco. The needs of the city that has been expressed hearsay if those people at the moment are there still, wherever they are, we cant bring them back because we cant solve our more immediate problems right now. The past 10 years alone are impressive. It is showing up allaround the city as you drive through. Everything from the Veterans War Memorial building and this building and all around. We want to make that part of the discussion that happens there. We talk about the work we have to do. We want to say thanks to the citizens that we have been able to get the funding to make it all happen. Thank you. Probably the most common question i have been asked over the last six weeks. Every single day is something thats admirable and i want us to really appreciate the folks who are part of, you know, our mental teams and our nonprofit organizations and our homeless out reach workers and even Law Enforcement and the work that were out there doing to help change and save peoples lives. This is the first of many steps that we plan to take and, again, this is, i know, a very complex issue. Its not wraped in the usual political package that the press, i know, wants to see it wrapped in. But this is actually what we need to do.
