OTT Platforms: During the open house discussion, Reliance Jio's Ravi Gandhi mentioned that tariff forbearance, like in the telecom sector, would help the broadcasting industry, stressing the importance of a fair regulatory framework.
Broadcast sector stakeholders are urging the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) to implement complete tariff forbearance to enhance the competitiveness of the pay-TV industry against emerging and established platforms like over-the-top (OTT) and DD Free Dish. Trai recently held an open house discussion to address issues in the consultation paper 'Review of Regulatory Framework for Broadcasting and Cable Services.
OneWeb India, part of the Bharti Group and subsidiary of Eutelsat Group, has become the first LEO (low earth orbit) operator in the country to get the authorization from the space regulator, he said.
