COLUMBIA — The state lawmaker who won the Democratic Party primary runoff for a U.S. Senate seat has apologized for the language she used in a leaked prison call to an inmate that has damaged her campaign. “I apologize for my language in this private conversation and for offending my fellow Democrats,” said S.C. Rep. Krystle Matthews of Ladson. She made the remarks June 30 during a brief news conference on the statehouse grounds. Matthews defeated Catherine Fleming Bruce of Sumter on June 28 in the Democratic runoff.
