He is a doctor who became infected in sierra leone although it is not clear if he was treating ebola patients at the time. The surgeon is a Sierra Leone National and is married to a u. S. Citizen and they have children. The surgeon will arrive in nebraska this weekend if his condition is stable enough to allow travel.
