I love watching barges move up and down the Arkansas River. I did just that on a recent Sunday afternoon while sitting in the plush offices of the Little Rock Port Authority. The occasion was a meeting of the Pulaski County Historical Society. I listened to the program, which concerned the history of the McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System, while watching the river flow south toward the Mighty Mississippi.

When I'm in Eureka Springs, I can spend hours reading the history on the fourth-floor walls at the Crescent Hotel.
