Lighthearted at some points, soul-crushingly poignant at others, the exhibition, organized by A Long Walk Home, embodies the wistful nostalgia of time past.
“This feels more chill than a traditional art museum,” Kristen Dowell, of Oak Park, said of her experience this weekend. “Just the way it’s set up feels a lot more relaxed.”
“The Black Girlhood Altar” began as a community project fueled by collective grief. Now it’s on display at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago.
