As the war against “surprise mechanics” wages on, Epic Games is now hoping to offer a preliminary settlement with disgruntled
Rocket League players by gifting each of them free in-game currency.

Part of a proposed settlement for a years-long class action lawsuit against Epic Games sees the game giant handing out in-game currency to players that purchased random draw loot boxes before the feature was essentially removed from Epic's games a few years back.
The settlement, set to be approved this week according to The Verge, marks the close of one of many loot box-centric lawsuits out there, but, due to the unique situation surrounding this particular case, the resolution doesn't yet signal any large scale legal push back against the in-app purchase scheme often likened to gambling.
In this case, the complaint was filed over monetization practices in Epic's mega popular game

Save The World’s randomised Loot Llamas will receive 1000 V-Bucks, developer Epic announced today. The move comes as part of a preliminary class action settlement regarding loot boxes.
“Whether you were a fan of random item Loot Llamas or not, with preliminary approval for a class action settlement, we’re awarding 1,000 V-Bucks to anyone that purchased a random Loot Llama,” Epic wrote. “While this settlement was for U.S. players only, we have decided to make this benefit available to players globally. There’s no action needed on your part, and you should receive your V-Bucks within the next few days.”

The payment is in response to “Loot Llamas” that were found within the popular shooter’s PvE campaign until at least 2019. The items in question featured randomised rewards rather than a clear indication of what a player would receive.
“We’re dropping 1000 V-Bucks into the accounts of all players globally who bought a random item Loot Llama in STW before we stopped offering them,” Epic Games said on the
Fortnite Twitter account. “No action needed, if you purchased this item you should see the V-Bucks in your account over the next few days.”
A second tweet linked the move back to the Loot Llamas.

A class action lawsuit against Epic Games will award free V-bucks to anyone who purchased a randomized "Loot Llama."
Back in 2019, a class action lawsuit targeted Epic Games over its randomized "Loot Llamas" in Fortnite: Save The World and Loot Crates in Rocket League. Now, a settlement will see Epic Games awarding 1000 free V-Bucks or Rocket League Credits to all players who purchased an offending loot box.
The bonuses will be paid out automatically and will be applied worldwide, despite the class action only technically covering players in the United States. Players in the US who aren't happy with just V-Bucks can also apply for financial compensation if they meet certain parameters, however.

Epic Games will give
Fortnite players 1,000 V-Bucks if they ever purchased an in-game loot box, presented within the game as “loot llamas” containing randomized items, as part of a proposed class action lawsuit settlement to be approved later this week.
While
Fortnite’s massively popular battle royale mode has never contained randomized loot boxes, the game’s cooperative survival mode, “Save the World,” did — at least until 2019 when Epic changed its loot box system to allow players to see the item inside prior to purchase.
