If the Idalia wreaks enough havoc, the name could be retired from the hurricane name list — following a trend for hurricane names that start with "I."

Storms beginning with the letter “I” are the most common tropical system names to become retired in the Atlantic Ocean, and Idalia, headed toward the Florida coast, has the potential to be next on the list.

The National Weather Service says almost half of all deaths from tropical cyclones come from storm surge. While many people focus on the wind speed of storms, the danger often comes from the water flowing in from the ocean.

Expect some changes along the island chain.
