Gorham High School student wins Rotary speech contest


GORHAM — Cheyenne Berube is the winner of this year s White Mountain Rotary Speech Contest.
Berube, a student at Gorham High School, was selected by a panel of Rotarians following recent virtual presentations and awarded $100.
This year s topic was, How can you and your local Rotary Clubs work together to improve your community and open new opportunities for you and other students?
Participants were asked to prepare and deliver a five-minute speech on that topic and how it relates to teamwork and the Rotary values.
Berube also took first prize in the second round of the competition, held April 14, against winners from other area Rotary Clubs. ....

Lacey presents Rotarians with housing market update


BANNER ELK — The High Country housing market went through a whirlwind this past year. In 2020, the region saw an influx of people moving to the area at such an accelerated rate that few houses now remain on the market, and prices have finally increased in response to the demand.
Fortunately, for members of the Rotary Club of Banner Elk, Mike Lacey of Lacey Realty visited with the group during its weekly meeting and luncheon and shared his wisdom with them as he discussed all things real estate. Lacey explained to the Rotarians the current housing market as a seller’s market. ....

Mineral Wells Rotary awards Four-Way Test Speech winners

Rotary Club of Mineral Wells last week held its annual Four-Way Test Speech Contest in the Mineral Wells Area Chamber of Commerce Community Room. 
Contestants were judged on their speeches and how they incorporated the guiding principles of Rotary Four-Way Test all Rotarians abide by. 
Winning a $1,000 scholarship for the second straight year was Mineral Wells High School senior Mackenzie Lawhon. Winning a $500 scholarship was MWHS senior Chase Jordan. Luke Bullock won a $250 scholarship. 
Lawhon is eligible to advance to district competition and a chance to win more scholarship monies. ....
