Man arrested in Brooklyn for fatal shooting that killed former Dover High athlete

Delaware News Journal
A 22-year-old man is pending extradition to Delaware after being arrested in Brooklyn for an early April murder in Dover.
Riley Braswell is charged with first degree murder, firearms charges and tampering with evidence in connection with the April 12 shooting of 19-year-old Dazhmier Brooks.
Brooks was shot less than a mile from Legislative Hall, in the 400 block of Sussex Ave., around 9:15 p.m. He was found wounded and unresponsive when police arrived, and later died at Bayhealth Kent General Hospital.
Braswell was quickly identified as a suspect but was only recently arrested. When U.S. Marshals with the First State Fugitive Task Force, with assistance from the United States Marshals Eastern District, took Braswell into custody in Brooklyn, they found a 9mm handgun on him, police said.

A former Dover High School athlete was found mortally wounded Monday night less than a mile from Delaware's Legislative Hall.
Dover police said Dazhmier Brooks had been shot in the chest, but did not provide information on why the 19-year-old man had been shot.
Brooks' killing, the first in Dover this year, drew remarks from the young man's former coaches.
"Words can't describe the loss I'm feeling right now," Dover high's former football coach Rudy Simonetti tweeted out. "I love all my players, past and present, they are like my own kids. Dazhmier, I love you man, Rest In Peace; you exemplified what it means to be ALL IN. My thoughts and prayers are with the Brooks family."
