The parallels between today and 1940 are not small. During the Blitz of 1940-1941, London was repeatedly bombed by Nazi Germany. At night, Londoners would go below ground into the subway system, while above, air-raid sirens blared and German bombs fell onto the city. Each morning the civilians would return to the surface and deal with the mayhem and death that was left in the piles of rubble and destroyed buildings.
