We're all talking 2024 but today is the later signing day for 2023 and Michigan won't come away empty-handed, as DE/DT Cameron Brandt announced his flip from a Stanford commitment. Brandt was close to signing with the Cardinal last December, but held off due to David Shaw stepping down. Michigan, who got involved last summer when Brandt's stock was rising, quickly moved back in, got him on campus for a visit, and closed the deal just before the dead period. Help, what are all these words? The UFR Glossary. Second reminder: Eyabi [was Anoma]'s name is now Eyabi Okie. Substitution Notes: The only starters who got even 2/3rds of a full day were DJ Turner, RJ Moten and JR Colson, but the benches only cleared very late as Michigan spent more time getting its two-deep practice. The DT rotation is Smith/Jenkins/Graham/Benny, with Morris moonlighting as a pass rush DT and Rooks/Grant your Jess Speight Memorial third pairing. Edge was primarily Harrell/Morris/McGregor with a sprinkling of Upshaw. Barrett/Mullings got equal time at LB. Will Johnson re...

Previously: The Story 2011, 2010, 2009, 2008. Preview 2011. Sometimes there's a man... I won't say a hero, 'cause what's a hero? But sometimes there's a man … and I'm talkin' about the Dude here… sometimes there's a man, well, he's the man for his time and place. He fits right in there. -The Stranger, The Big Lebowksi I construct the preview every year from the bones of the previous one, and when I took my first stabs at organizing what I was going to say about the secondary I ran across this, because obviously: How long ago was that? A hundred ...

Previously: The Story 2010, 2009, 2008. Preview 2010. It was the best time I'd ever had at a Chili's. Nothing whatsoever distinguished it from an average visit to Chili's. The beer was light American lager. The chicken was a bit dry, the cheese the usual half-step up from stuff you'd get in a great red-labeled cube. The waitress was a cheerful slab of the Midwest, and the bill was perfectly reasonable. I grinned and laughed and fought off bouts of body-encompassing tiredness. An hour or so before I'd sat in Notre Dame Stadium as everyone else filed out. Once they were ...

Let's hope Tom Allen never does get his hands on a roster full of Big Ten average talent, because he knows what to do with it, at least on defense. Fortunately he hasn't been able to recruit like his predecessors, and that leaves some major gaps he's constantly plugging. From a film analyst perspective a good and desperately undermanned coach like Allen is awesome. It takes me back to watching the defenses Mattison was calling at Michigan in 2011, except Allen's talent is mostly in the secondary. Oh what he wouldn't give for a Mike Martin or Ryan Van Bergen. Instead he's rolling out the 3-sta...
