Thank you for making Festival of Lights possible | Letter | The Journal of the San Juan Islands

The San Juan Island Chamber of Commerce would like to thank all involved for another successful tree lighting! The Island Light Festival was a wonderful and festive event, filled with community spirit and holiday cheer. The dedication and hard work of Casey Baisch and his team of elves worked for weeks on getting the lights in place. We had cookies and cocoa from Riptide Café and thank them as well as Benj Ross, Santa Claus, the Town of Friday Harbor and Island Rec who all contributed to the success of the event. Our new location was named the Christmas Tree in November 1990 and dedicated to all the MIA’s of all the wars by the American Legion.

Islanders urged to read and provide input to Draft Destination Management Plan | The Journal of the San Juan Islands

Islanders are all familiar with the sight of walls of people walking off the ferry and the seemingly never-ending traffic that comes as ferries unload. The county population doubles during summer months, and the off-season is shrinking as people are beginning to visit all times of the year. After years of surveys and public input, a Draft San Juan County Destination Management Plan is open for public comment until Oct. 31.
