•DCN still among Iowa's top three large weekly newspapers The sound of hammers briefly echoed through the Dickinson County News offices this week, as staff added a number of award plaques to their walls. The newspaper raked in 21 honors — placing first in eight competition categories — during last week's Iowa Better Newspaper Contest in Des Moines.

Following a week-and-a-half of deep freeze conditions, temperatures began to rise just in time for Winter Games weekend in Okoboji. Recently, second-grade students at Okoboji Elementary had a chance to read "Santa's Stuck," a children's book by Rhonda Gowler Greene and Henry Cole. Their teachers, Jennifer Bouse, Brenda Martin, Jenni Cunningham and Beth McCabe, then asked the second-grade students how they would dislodge jolly old Saint Nicholas from if he were trapped in their chimney.
