French ISIS bride undergoes makeover similar to Shamima Begum

Emilie Konig, 36, fled France for Syria in 2012 where she married an ISIS fighter
She was captured by the Kurds in 2017 and is now fighting to return to France
Konig, who wore a full-face veil even while living in France, appeared at the prison camp in westernised dress as she begged to be allowed home
Makeover is almost identical to one that British ISIS bride Shamima Begum received at the same camp as she fights to return to the UK

Shamima Begum: what the media's fixation on her 'western' clothing means for Muslim women

Card image cap

Europe’s fascination with Muslim women, their bodies and their clothing choices – as seen in the passing of discriminatory face covering bans in several countries – shows no sign of abating. Throughout the western world, Muslim women have become expendable commodities, with offensive tropes dominating news coverage on a regular basis. In recent years in the UK, the most high profile victim of such rhetoric has arguably been Shamima Begum.
Earlier this year, the Supreme Court ruled Begum could not challenge the government’s decision to revoke her citizenship in 2019. As a result she would not be allowed to return to the UK from Syria, where she had travelled to in 2015.

Invalid Date,
JIHADI bride Shamima Begum has been spotted at a "bank" which pays out "illegal" cash sent to those caged inside a notorious refugee camp.
The 22-year-old was seen joining a group of women gathered outside a "hawala" money exchange at the infamous Al-Roj compound in Northern Syria.

Although there is absolutely no suggestion Begum was doing anything wrong, it is illegal under the UK Terrorism Act to send money abroad if the recipient has joined or aligned themselves with a terrorist group - like ISIS.

The UK's newly installed prime minister, Boris Johnson, has spared no time in appointing a set of government ministers that better reflect his new agenda - most importantly with regards to a no-holds barred approach to take Britain out of the European Union.
But while much has been written of Johnson's Middle East connections - from his Turkish ancestry to his bungling of the case of Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe - his new team present a whole new set of baggage with regards to the region.

Dumpling Green estate plans quashed by Planning Inspectorate

Simon Bryan, Hopkins' group development director, said they were disappointed with the ruling.
He said: “We believe that this proposed development would bring forward a number of much needed homes in a sustainable location.
“The application was recommended for approval by the council’s planning officer and would also bring a range of benefits to the community including significant financial contributions towards education, improvements to highways, healthcare provision and library services.
“We stand by our belief that this is a suitable location and we are now taking the time to consider our position.”
Roger Atterwill, one of the councillors on Breckland's planning committee who voted against the scheme, called the decision “very good news” for Dereham.

With the recent highly publicised protests held at a school in Batley the limelight is upon the Muslim community in the UK.
A teacher at the school provoked Muslim students by showing offensive caricatures of Prophet Muhammad (s) in a Religious Studies lesson. More than 70 percent of pupils at the school are from a Muslim background so the incident was all the more insensitive.
The result was two days of demonstrations by parents and faith leaders that ended with an official apology from the school’s management.

Canadian women who joined ISIS should be repatriated, investigated and rehabilitated

Dhugmosh is one of the few Canadian women who’ve been militarized and recruited by ISIS in the past few years. While Dhugmosh was sent back to Canada, others managed to join ISIS by marrying ISIS soldiers. Despite there being no evidence that suggests these women took part in combat-related terrorist activity, they are seen as a security threat and have been abandoned by their governments.
Canadian extremists
While the exact number of Canadians who’ve left the country to join ISIS remains unknown, Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale estimated in January 2019 that about 250 high-risk extremist travellers with connections to Canada have travelled overseas. He said:

In a Syrian detention camp, Western women formerly radicalized by ISIS find the support in one another that their home nations refuse them.

At irregular intervals throughout Alba Sotorra’s stirring, sobering and vitally humane new documentary “The Return: Life after ISIS,” discreet titles appear to define the foreign terms that crop up. The small group of Western women in this Syrian detention camp are from all over — Canada, the U.S., the U.K., the Netherlands, Germany — and speak in differently accented, more or less fluent English. But with the regime that until recently defined them fallen, with their own countries refusing their return and with the wider world regarding them with hostility if not outright hatred, the few Arabic words they all use are piquant markers of their shared experiences as “ISIS wives” — a short glossary of regret, shame and despite everything, hope.

Jamestown is proud to release this compilation of her work to the public, with an introduction by prominent researcher Alison Pargeter. ISIS in Syria: The transformation of ISIS women in Syria's Al Roj camp | International

Widad can’t resist moving her head to the rhythm of the song
Con Altura whose music video shows five dancers in skintight clothes performing with Spanish singer Rosalía. A 34-year-old German woman, Widad controls the television showing the music video that is also being watched by five other Western women who sit crosslegged in a tent in the Kurdish-run Al Roj camp for the families of Islamic State (ISIS) fighters in northeast Syria. Painted lips, multiple earrings, dyed red, straightened hair, jeans and elegant shoes contrast with the sea of
abayas (a long loose-fitting robe) in the surrounding 800 tents, which are guarded by the Kurdish-Arab militias allied to the international coalition. “Last March 8, on Women’s Day, we decided to take off our veils,” says Widad, who has four young children fathered by two jihadist husbands.

Lord Chancellor's Speech: Law and politics - the nightmare and the noble dream

Card image cap

Introduction and the role of the Lord Chancellor
Thank you, Richard [Johnson, School of Politics and International Relations, QMUL]. It’s a pleasure to join you and everyone online.
It has been claimed on various occasions, most recently by my friend and colleague the Lord President of the Council and Leader of the House of Commons that one expert on the constitution believes, and I quote, that it ‘has always been puzzling and always will be.’ I say quote because the expert in question is no less than Her Majesty the Queen. But I think I had better leave it there for the sake of well-known propriety. Let me start by saying how grateful I am to the School of Politics and International Relations for the invitation, and to Queen Mary University for the opportunity to speak today as we continue to puzzle over our constitution.
