A Transformative Journey of Mass Birth Registration and Health Insurance in The Gambia

The World Bank-financed Gambia Essential Health Services Strengthening Project implemented an innovative approach by conducting a simultaneous mass registration of both birth certificates and national health insurance memberships. Between August 1, 2022, and February 28, 2023, more than half of the population was registered and provided with a unique national identification number.
