good morning to our viewers in the united states and around the world. it's kasie hunt. it's thursday, 5:00 a.m. here in washington. it's 4:00 a a.m. in iowa. there are now four days until the caucuses. hours ago, ron desantis and nikki haley went head to head on the cnn debate stage in the fight for number two. both deploying the pants on fire strategy. >> you have said it again. stop lying. >> she said she never said it. you're lying. >> it doesn't change the fact that ron is lying because ron is losing. >> you lie a the lot. hnikki haley gives him a run fo his money. >> you get th...

good evening to all. i'm erin burnett in new york. and wolf blitzer is joining me from washington, d.c. this is a special edition of "outfront." and tonight the breaking news, the former president's defiance. that is how one of donald trump's attorneys describes the former president's mood tonight after pleading not guilty to 37 felony counts in miami. we are awaiting trump's first public comment since he was formally arrested today. he is expected to head to newark airport, then to his new jersey golf club where he will address most of his loyal supporters and hold a fundraiser. ...

He said it again in that clip. i don't know why that catches me off guard. there's this huge conundrum. i watched chris christie's speech, and i was a fan of his approach of trying to take dth haed on. i keep thinking if the other candidates took on that same set of talking points, in addition to a forward-look message, to my account, it took 44 minutes for either ron desantis or nikki haley to even mention joe biden's name. so think you have to beat donald trump. you have to beat joe biden if you're going to be the next president of of the united states. and last night's debate felt more of l...

I believe that if he were provided an off ramp, yeah, maybe he would. but that would mean somebody taking, giving him a free lawyer, somebody taking his case and him not having to pay for it, and then somehow knowing that he could have a job. at the end of the day, i know everybody thinks doing what's right is the most important, and it is. but he still has to live and support himself. and right now trump is his only life line. you've got lawyers being paid for if and when he gets one, and i'm sure he's getting paid probably a little bit more than a personal aide should. we've got new reacti...

There's toughness and good luck for somebody taking on ben sass saying you're too genteel, too much of a wimp. same thing with rand paul. there is a way to be tough and push back against the extremes of donald trump. >> we don't know what would happen in a nebraska primary against ben sass in 2020. maybe he would lose. at some point you have to say at some point you have to say the right thing. >> all right. thank you. >> i have to ask bob costa, willie and i are ready. did we get the cartons? >> yes. chesterfields. >> we're going to the holiday in and watching your show tomorrow night. what d...
