Two students from Carroll High School and two from the Carroll Middle School have qualified for the National History Day Contest to be held from Sunday, June 13 to Saturday, June 19 virtually. This is the second year the contests on the local and national level have been moved to a digital format with the state competition having been held from April 15 to April 26 with final results posted on April 30. “National History Day is a challenging program that provides Iowa students opportunities to grow and develop skills that will serve them throughout their lives,” says Susan Klower, administrator of the State Historical Society of Iowa. “We congratulate our national finalists and wish them all the best as they represent our state at the national level.” Sixty-three Iowa students will participate in that national competition, including Madeline Parrott and Sophia Polking from Carroll High, who received top honors in the Senior Group Performance Category with “Communication ....
A dozen students from three local schools have earned All-State nominations for their performances during the Iowa High School Speech Association (IHSSA) state individual event contest. To be eligible for the recognition, individuals must be identified by at least two judges for their outstanding presentation. Seven students from Carroll High School and Ar-We-Va, which have a joint speech program, were nominated. These students include: Bridget Cameron and Sophia Polking for Acting; Maris Cameron for Literary Program; Aleah Casebeer in Poetry; Joewie Heithoff for After Dinner Speaking; Mishy King in Storytelling; and Brooke Reiling for Improvisation. The three Kuemper students nominated were: Britnee Irlbeck in Acting; Max Meyers for Musical Theatre; and Kenna Soppe in Spontaneous Speaking.
