Wendy is now accepting new patients at the St. Claire Family Medicine Sandy Hook location where she joins Aaron Banks, DO, and Megan McDowell, APRN. “I’ve always really enjoyed helping people, so I’ve always known I wanted to be a nurse,” says Wendy . “I remember telling my mom early on that I wanted to be a nurse. I’m really happy that I stuck with that decision.” Wendy finds that the most rewarding thing about her career is serving the people of rural Eastern Kentucky, where she calls home. ....

Growing up in Morehead, Dr. Mattingly never planned to become a doctor. He had considered becoming a professor like his father, but medicine certainly wasn’t in his plans. “I didn’t really like hospitals growing up … I didn’t like the way they smelled,” he said. Somehow his wife, Jenni, a physician assistant, got him to reconsider medicine. She suggested he shadow a few physicians to see what it was all about. He got past the ‘hospital smell,’ took her up on her advice, and found himself on a career path that would lead him to the highest peaks in the world, but more about that later. ....

Extended COVID Testing Hours Tuesday: 7 AM – 5 PM Wednesday: 7 AM – 7 PM Thursday: 7 AM – 5 PM Friday: 7 AM – 5 PM Regular hours will resume on Monday, Jan. 18. To access the drive-thru testing center, enter the St. Claire HealthCare campus from KY-32 (Flemingsburg Road) near McDonald’s. Signs will guide you to the testing center beyond that point. Baby boy, Adrian Bernard Allen, Jr., and his twin sister Armani Briella were born to proud parents Rhianna Burns and Adrian Allen of Morehead. Adrian Jr. arrived at 11:04 AM weighing 5 lbs 7 oz., and measuring 19 3/4 inches long. Armani arrived quickly after at 11:05 AM, at 5 lbs 15 oz, measuring 18 1/4 inches long. The twins were delivered by Frank LaBarbara, MD, OB/GYN with UK Morehead Women’s Healthcare. “We cannot say enough about how amazing the entire team was, especially dealing with our emergency c-section. Everything went so smooth and everyone acted very fast,” said Burns ....
