We were set up to be an objective and impartial agency that is strictly nonpartisan, and we provide analysis of budgetary and economic issues. The director, towards that goal, the director is appointed jointly by the speaker of the house, and the president pro tem of the senate. Cbo has about 235 employees, hired solely on the basis of congressional competence, and without regard to political affiliation.
