Illinois State Armory renovation plans moves forward


The Illinois State Armory played host to Martin Luther King, Jr. at the height of the civil rights movement in 1965, John F. Kennedy during his bid for the White House, and Van Halen at the top of the music world. For the last decade, it has sat empty but is now moving toward a second life. 
On Wednesday, the Illinois Capital Development Board announced Tilton, Kelly + Bell, a Chicago firm, will be in charge of designing the renovation. 
The 2019 capital plan allocated $122 million for restoring the building. Tilton, Kelly + Bell will use $12.2 million to begin designing and stabilizing the building. Renovations will focus on repurposing the building, according to a press release.  ....
