reporter: we re hoping this will be the beginning of the end of making sure that that well is capped for good, no more leaking from that well. as you mentioned, they re trying to get underway with the injekation tests, that is going to pump some light oil into that blown out well down the throat of that well so to speak, lethal injection that they hope will give them an idea on whether or not they can push the crude back into the reservoir, that will give them an indication of how much pressure they will need to put the mud in when they start that static kill. it s sort of an insurance policy, the real focus remains on of course the relief wells that they have been creating over the last few months. and that is where the focus in the next few weeks will head toward, that is what they want to do, they also want to pour cement down in the relief wells so called bottom kill and that will be the permanent fix likely to be done mid to late august. all right, michelle franzen live in lou ....

This afternoon, bp to have begun a test that was a precursor to the so-called static kill procedure. bp released a statement saying as engineers started the injectiveity test, they discovered a small hydraulic leak in the capping system. the test and the static kill will wait until the leak is fixed possibly by tomorrow. but even before bp s engineers have tried to pump mud and cement down the throat of the busted well, something it s tried and failed to do in similar fashion before, something it cannot now start, the company is acting as if it s already succeeded. bp officials not sure they ll use the relief wells they have been digging for months now to permanently plug the ruptured oil well in the gulf of mention coy, what is long thought to be the best, most surefire method of stopping the leak for good. a bp spokesman saying, quote, precisely what the relief wells will do remains to be seen. long-term effects of dangerous chemical dispersants remaining to be seen. ....
Oil into the gulf of mexico for three months may be permanently stopped this week. let s hope. bp says it s beginning the so-called static kill procedure as early as tomorrow. that involves forcing mud and cement into the well and will be followed by a quote, bottom kill through a relief well that should be finished in about a week. but with millions of gallons of what is a final lesson to be learned from this summer of oil. for that we turn to robert rice. the president says he s going to appoint a national commission to study this and see if we need other regulations, is that good enough? undoubtedly we need more corporations and one thing we have learned after bp is that corporations are not people, they don t have consciences, ....
