Former German government minister Christian Schmidt was on Thursday named the new international High Representative in Bosnia, whose office oversees implementation of the 1995 peace accord.
Schmidt will take office on Aug. 1, according to the Steering Board of the Peace Implementation Council.
The Board is comprised of ambassadors from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, Britain, the United States, the European Union, European Commission, and the Organisation of the Islamic Conference, represented by Turkey.
Russian Embassy in
Bosnia and Herzegovina said on Thursday it closely followed the statements by US ambassador Eric Nelson and special envoy for the Western Balkans Matthew Palmer who, according to the embassy, blamed
Russia for all the troubles BiH has and for undermining the stability of BiH and the whole region,
N1 reported.
“We can only comment on such conclusions using one saying by [Russian Foreign Minister] Sergey Lavrov: ‘It’s good that they don’t blame us for the murder of Franz Ferdinand’,” the embassy said.
The embassy considered Palmer’s statement confirming that the US supports the creation of a “greater BiH” to be “very interesting”, commenting that such attributes usually mean redrawing borders. “We have noticed an omission in the speech but the omissions in the Balkan conditions are usually not observed. When one speaks about something ‘greater’, they refer exactly to the redrawing of borders,” it added.
