Line of Duty's Jed Mercurio hints at scrapped Jo and Kate romance

Thursday, 27th May 2021 at 3:42 pm
Line of Duty creator Jed Mercurio has hinted that restrictions necessitated by the COVID-19 pandemic may have prevented more intimate storylines from being included in the crime drama’s recent sixth series.

Throughout the seven-episode run, there were glimmers of a romantic connection between bent copper Joanne Davidson (Kelly Macdonald) and former AC-12 officer Kate Fleming (Vicky McClure).
However, this relationship ultimately never went further than a bit of hand-holding and some longing glances, leading some viewers to accuse the show of queerbaiting – the practice of hinting at LGBTQ+ romance, but not actually depicting it.

Line of Duty: Unanswered questions from the season 6 finale

Here are some of the unanswered questions viewers may have after watching…
What was the full extent of Philip Osborne’s involvement in corruption and cover-ups?
Just because Buckells was exposed as the OCG rat doesn’t mean everyone else is exonerated – quite the opposite. Instead, as Ted Hastings (Adrian Dunbar) explains to Patricia Carmichael (Anna Maxwell Martin), Buckells’s rise through the ranks was only facilitated by institutional failings that went right to the top.

Exactly how complicit Chief Constable Osborne was in the various crimes and scandals AC-12 were looking at is still unknown; for now, it seems, he’s gotten away with his role in Vella’s murder. With Carmichael in charge, however, it seems likely everything will be swept under the rug.

LINE Of Duty fans are on tenterhooks for tomorrow as the finale of the cop thriller looks set to land the big fish they have been chasing – arch criminal H.

But creator Jed Mercurio has also sprinkled in quite a few red herrings, leaving viewers and the anti-corruption team the difficult task of landing the real catch.

Line of Duty: From Marcus Thurwell to Steph Corbett's Cash, Episode 5 Is Full of Big Revelations
After last week's action-packed episode, it's been a nail-biting week for
Line of Duty fans thanks to what was quite possibly television's biggest cliffhanger since "who shot J.R.?" Intense speculation and conspiracy theories were swirling all over social media in anticipation of episode five, with super sleuths trying to figure out what it would reveal not only about DCI Jo Davidsons's familial ties but also about the future of AC-12 and who murdered Gail Vella.

Line of Duty episode 5 season 6 recap | Questions & theories

Sunday, 18th April 2021 at 10:00 pm
Hopefully you remember everything that happened in every previous season of Line of Duty – because you
really needed to have a good memory to keep up with this episode. In particular, the events of season four are suddenly relevant again; plus, Ted Hastings’ money shenanigans in season five may come back to haunt him, and characters from season one are back in the picture.

But in the immediate aftermath of that cliffhanger ending, Line of Duty fans will be thinking of one thing and one thing only: DI Kate Fleming. So let’s get into it!

Line of Duty season 6, episode 3 recap: Talking points from the hit BBC One drama's latest episode

Don't show me this message again✕
With the sixth series of
Line of Duty approaching its midway point, it seems like things are starting to heat up for Steve Arnott and co.
Episode three features the most memorable set piece of the season to date, as nefarious officer Ryan Pilkington (Gregory Piper) attempted to drown a key witness and fellow police officer after a lakeside car accident. The scene embodies much of what makes
Line of Duty great: it’s unexpected, edge-of-your-seat stuff that manages to sell a ridiculous twist as completely plausible.
Elsewhere, the episode is more subdued, though no less tense. DCI Joanne Davidson (Kelly Macdonald) is proving a wonderfully slippery foil for Arnott (Martin Compston), and the pair’s investigational tête-à-tête is carried over from last week without missing a beat.

Line of Duty fans think they've found 'H' clue hidden in kitchen tiles in episode 3

Line of Duty viewers have claimed they’ve noticed a major clue that hints at the identity of “H” – albeit hidden on a kitchen tile in the background of a scene.
The last few seasons of the hit BBC One police drama have focused on the hunt for “H”, a name given to a corrupt officer working within the upper echelons of the police.
While series five revealed that “H” was in fact not one person but several, the hunt still remains for the last “H”, also referred to as “the fourth man”.

Line of Duty, season 6 episode 3 recap: sex, drugs and Terry Boyle

An episode that had it all – for better or for worse.
“You know I’m still your best mate, Terry”
Oh, poor Terry Boyle. Used by the OCG – or “cuckooed” as Steve Arnott (Martin Compston) had it – for nine years, he was now deemed a danger to their balaclava-clad dealings and needed to be silenced. A convenient witness had come forward to claim she saw Terry, not Carl Banks, arguing with the dead CHIS, Alastair Oldroyd, in the Red Lion. With Terry back in questioning and nearly spilling all to MIT – “The other man. He did it” – undercover weasel PC Ryan Pilkington (Gregory Piper) attempted to tie up that dangerous loose end.

Line of Duty episode 3 season 6 recap | Questions & theories

Sunday, 4th April 2021 at 10:00 pm
Episode three of Line of Duty season six certainly played to the fandom. “The name’s Hastings, ma’am, I’m the epitome of an old battle” declared Superintendent Ted Hastings (Adrian Dunbar), magnificently, in the face of opposition from his superiors. That followed hot on the heels of another classic: “My actions and the actions of my officers are determined by one thing and one thing only, and that is the letter of the law.” (Drink!)

And then there was this, from DCI Jo Davidson (Kelly Macdonald): “They keep banging on about organised crime. They must get a pound every time someone says OCG.” Meta?
