Attorney General Bonta Announces Conviction and Sentencing in Organized Crime Sex Trafficking Case

OAKLAND – California Attorney General Rob Bonta today announced the conviction and sentencing of Jing Chiang Huang for her role in an organized crime sex trafficking ring operating across California. Today’s sentence holds Huang accountable for her actions and is the result of cooperative investigative efforts undertaken by the California Department of Justice, Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, California Franchise Tax Board, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and numerous local law enforcement agencies.
“Plain and simple: Trafficking young Asian women for sex is criminal,”
said Attorney General Bonta. “It’s also part of a long history of objectification in this country that has been part and parcel of the anti-Asian violence we’ve seen across the United States. That’s why I’m grateful to our partners in law enforcement across California whose investigative efforts helped make this case happen. It takes all of us working together across jurisdictions to tackle the complex challenges presented by human trafficking. Today’s sentence is a testament to the fact that when we work cooperatively, we can get the job done. As Attorney General, that will always be one of my core strategies in working to protect the people of California. This case isn’t over yet, but we’ll keep fighting.”

Oakland, California - Nelson Enrike Ramirez was arraigned Wednesday on a federal criminal complaint charging him with robbery affecting interstate commerce, announced Acting United States Attorney Stephanie M. Hinds and Federal Bureau of Investigation Special Agent in Charge Craig D. Fair.
The complaint charges Ramirez, 40 years old and from Union City, with a November 6, 2020, robbery of a 7-Eleven convenience store on Washington Boulevard in Fremont.  According to the complaint, Ramirez entered the store wearing a black or grey inside-out hooded sweatshirt, a black COVID-19-style mask, and a grey glove.  He allegedly told the clerk he needed a soda from the soda machine and as the clerk approached to help, Ramirez pulled what appeared to be a black handgun from his pocket.  He ordered the clerk to walk to the cash register, where the clerk gave Ramirez approximately $200 from the register.  Ramirez looked in another register and then left the store.

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The family of Taiwanese-American Alice Ku (古雅芳) is hoping for her safe return a year after she mysteriously disappeared during a trip to eastern Taiwan with her husband last year.
According to the Liberty Times, the 38-year-old Ku arrived in Taiwan with her Canadian husband Harald Herchen on Nov. 24, 2019, to visit her family. Two days later, the couple took a trip to Taroko National Park in Hualien County, and Ku has not been heard from since then.
Ku's family has filed a missing person report to both the Taiwanese and American police after failing to reach her for months. The family said Ku was extremely responsible and that there was no reason for her to cut off all connections.
