At a town hall in El Dorado Hills, people gathered to discuss ways for El Dorado County to secede from California and push for statehood.
Activist Sharon Durst recently proposed at a community meeting that El Dorado County, just east of Sacramento, split from the Golden State.
A new proposal, put forth by a resident and supported by at least one former county leader, would have El Dorado County secede to become the 51st state.
County residents “want their former livelihoods restored and their rural way of life respected,” the resident leading the secession push wrote.
