The idea of supplier diversity began in 1969 after President Richard Nixon signed Executive Order 11458, creating the Office of Minority Business Enterprise. UK's own Supplier Diversity Program, led by Marilyn Clark, strives to be intentional, sustainable, replicable and most importantly positive impact the minority-owned, women-owned and other underrepresented businesses it serves.
Motivated by a continual commitment to reflection and renewal, Project 14: Expand Supplier Diversity Purchasing Program, has made significant progress since President Eli Capilouto announced a comprehensive, collaborative 17-project Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Plan. Designed to empower agents of change, embolden existing DEI efforts and introduce additional initiatives to engage more of the community in this work, this plan has ignited a holistic overhaul to the university's approach to advancing diversity at UK.
