The Australian Dollar is largely unchanged versus the US Dollar despite stronger-than-expected second-quarter inflation data. On a year-over-year basis, the consumer price index (CPI) rose 3.8% versus a consensus estimate of 3.7%. A 0.8% q/q increase also beat expectations. The sharp rise in prices come amid a sweeping new wave of Covid lockdowns that have sent over half of the country’s population into lockdowns in recent months. It should be noted that the trimmed mean measurement, which the RBA watches more closely, clocked in-line with expectations at 1.6% y/y.

Across the globe, health officials have become increasingly concerned over the spread of Covid’s highly transmissible Delta variant. That spread has led to lockdowns being enacted across Australia over the past 48 hours. Accordingly, the Australian Dollar has come under pressure. New South Wales (NSW), the Australian state that includes the country’s most populous city Sydney, announced a two-week lockdown earlier this week across several of its regions, including Sydney.

The NSW Govt Clarified If You Can Visit Intimate Partners In Lockdown

Published June 25, 2021
With a massive throng of people now subject to the stay-at-home orders of the snap Sydney Lockdown, confusion is rife as to what it means and, more importantly, who can visit whom and when. Crucially, NSW officials have been quick to provide some clarification on what it means for those within the lockdown LGAs who don’t necessarily live with an intimate partner. And in that regard, there’s some good news.
NSW Chief Health Officer
Dr Kerry Chant was quick to confirm that intimate partners residing within the lockdown zone will be able to visit one another, provided that does not require going further than the current travel restrictions in place across much of Sydney.
