But you never know who might have gone on to be a trend-setting model, create musical masterpieces or represent Great Britain at the Olympics. New London — He will always be known as one of the Bulkeley boys. New London native Harold Arkava was many things in his life, but friends say his tenacious efforts to protect and pay homage to his high school alma mater, The Bulkeley School, is likely to be remembered for generations. Arkava died over the weekend at the age of 94. “He was a piece of work. They don’t make 'em like him anymore,” said longtime friend Joseph Heap, who served with Arkava on the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission in the 1980s and 1990s.
