New Delhi, April 6 : The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports on Tuesday reiterated its support to the Tokyo Olympics-bound athletes, saying that it has all along "realised Indias dream at the Olympic Games through athlete-centric development".
The ministry, through its Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) for elite athletes, has spent upwards of Rs five crore on the 15 Olympic-bound shooters.
A sum of Rs 1.02 crore has been spent on shotgun stalwart Mairaj Ahmad Khan, who was a part of the scheme from September 2017 to August 2018 and was re-inducted in December 2019 after he booked an Olympic quota place in skeet.

World number one Elavenil Valarivan's inclusion in a 15-member Indian shooting contingent for the Tokyo Olympics at the expense of quota winner Chinki Yadav, who had claimed a gold in the Delhi World Cup last month, was the big talking point after the National Rifle Association of India announced the squad on Sunday.

New Delhi, April 4 : The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) selection committee is expected to meet on Sunday and announce the squad for the Tokyo Olympic Games in July-August.
In the 2019 Olympic qualification cycle, India won 15 Olympic quota places, including two in the men's skeet event. The quota is for the country and not for shooters.
Almost all the quota winners had given a good account of themselves in the recently-concluded New Delhi World Cup held at the Dr Karni Singh Shooting Ranges here.

It’s the last day of the ISSF World Cup in New Delhi. The team competition in trap discipline is being played out and skeet shooter Mairaj Ahmad Khan has walked in to watch the proceedings. Looking relaxed, the 45-year-old is at the Karni Singh Shooting Ranges to push for his training proposal with the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) officials. After the meeting, he is at the final range. “Ah! He is too slow, the target is well past him,” Mairaj indulges in commentary after a quick glance at the commentary box, which is empty.
