(Bloomberg) -- As the truce between Israel and Hamas enters its final 24 hours, negotiators from Qatar, Egypt and the US are pressing for an extension to try to secure the release of additional captives and avert a resumption of a war that erupted almost two months ago. As part of a temporary truce between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, Hamas has released a total of 58 hostages, including Thai and Filipino citizens, in exchange for the release of Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners. Temporary truce: On Nov. 21, Israel agreed to a four-day ceasefire with a deal to release three Palestinians for every Israeli hostage allowed out of Gaza. Over the first three days of the truce, 13 Israeli women and children were released each day by Hamas, as well as citizens from Thailand, the Philippines, Poland and Russia.

The Thai government said that 18 of its citizens remain hostages of Hamas somewhere inside of the Gaza Strip.

Filipino and Thai laborers and Nepali students have been killed or taken hostage amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas. Filipino casualties: Two Filipinos have lost their lives in the war, the Philippine Embassy in Tel Aviv said on Wednesday. The victims include a 42-year-old man from Pampanga, Philippines, who was captured by Hamas militants and a 33-year-old woman from Pangasinan who died alongside her employer when militants attempted to force their door open.
