WTEN: Tigers Defeat Louisville, 4-3, In Second ACC Conference Win

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson Women’s Tennis team (11-8, 2-6 ACC) defeated Louisville (4-13, 0-8 ACC) 4-1 on Thursday, March 28th. This marks the Tigers' second ACC-conference win. “What a great team win for these Tigers,” Head Coach Boomer Saia said. “The conditions today were tough, with the wind and the loss of the doubles point. Louisville had a lot of momentum, and I commend our players for finding ways to get four points on the board. Watching Cristina Mayorova and Jenna Thompson battle down the stretch and win both of their third sets was awesome.”  “It was neat to watch our team stand up in the face of adversity, so we will enjoy this excellent home win before returning after it for Tiger Tennis Fest on Saturday,” Saia continued. “We are looking forward to the opportunity to take two home wins this weekend.” In doubles, court one fell first to Allie Gretkowski and Lika Peresypkina 6-3. Court three saw Sophia Hatton and Alina Tsyurpalevych's first win of the day, 6-4. The doubles point came down to court three, where Jenna Thompson and Leigh Van Zyl dueled hard but ultimately fell 7-5. In singles, Van Zyl won both her sets easily, 6-2, 6-2. Van Zyl secured the Tigers' first point of the day, tying the score to Clemson 1, Louisville 1. Shortly after, Medvedeva fell to Jamilah Snells 6-3, 6-3. Following Medvedeva’s loss, Alexandra Anttila was defeated 7-6 (7-4), 7-5.    On court four, Hatton battled hard, winning her first match 7-5. In her second match she defeated Germany Davis 6-3, bringing the score to 3-2, with Louisville leading. Thompson followed and secured her match after going to three sets. In set one, Thompson won 6-4. She lost the second match 4-6 but pulled off the win in the third set, winning 6-2. With Thompson’s win on court two, the score was level at 3-3 Coming down to court one, Mayorova fought hard against Jamila Snells. In the first set, Mayorova lost 3-6. Bouncing back, Mayorova finished the match, scoring 6-3, 6-2, and clinched the match for the Tigers. Next, the Tigers are set to take on Notre Dame at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 30. This match is part of the Tiger Tennis Fest promotion. Fans are encouraged to come to the women’s match and stay for the men’s match against Florida State at 2 p.m. There will be multiple activities for fans of all ages, including an Easter egg hunt, face painting, a food truck, and games. The match is slated for 1 p.m. and will be streamed on TrackTennis. The Tigers are coming off a recent a recent doubleheader sweep over Boston College and the College of Charleston. Clemson secured their first conference-play win over the Eagles and will look to record another ACC-win over Miami. The Hurricanes enter the match with two recent conference losses to Virginia and Virginia Tech. Following the match against Miami, the Tigers will host Florida State on Saturday, March 30 as the match will be part of the first-ever Tiger Tennis Fest which will include food, games, prizes and more. On Thursday, March 28, The Tigers are set to play Louisville (4-12, 0-7 ACC) at 5 p.m. at the Duckworth Family Tennis Facility. On Saturday, March 30, The Tigers take on Notre Dame at 10 a.m. and is a part of Tiger Tennis Fest. “This will be a great tennis weekend and an opportunity for our team,”  Head Coach Boomer Saia said. “Louisville and Notre Dame are battle-tested, and we must have our best tennis come out against both. Saturday will be an incredible day with Tennis Fest! It will be a full day of Women’s and Men’s tennis, with a food truck and various activities scattered throughout the matches. Tiger Tennis Fest is the first of its kind in college tennis—it will be a great interactive opportunity for all Clemson Tiger Fans!” This will be the ninth meeting between Clemson and Louisville. The Tigers lead the series with the Cards, 8-1, and last defeating Louisville 4-3 in 2023. Against Notre Dame, this will be the 23rd meeting between the two programs. Notre Dame leads 13-9, and the Tigers last won in 2022, 4-3.  On Saturday, following the Women’s match, the Men’s Tennis team will take on Florida State at 2 p.m. as part of the Tiger Tennis Fest. Fans are encouraged to stay the whole day to cheer on both teams.  Throughout the day, there will be activities for fans of all ages. Pickleball is available for fans to play on the courts, but it is not in use throughout the day. Other activities include face painting and games. There will be a shaved ice truck from 1-2 p.m., and pictures with the Tiger will be from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Lastly, there will be an Easter egg hunt and a raffle for prizes during both matches.
