Calls increase 176% on Fourth of July from fireworks injuries, blazes, says Phoenix Fire Department

The Phoenix Fire Department is considering having extra crews work the Fourth of July.On a typical day, Phoenix gets between seven and 21 fire calls. The department reviewed data going back to 2018 and found that on New Year’s Day, calls increased 161%. On the Fourth of July, calls jumped 176%.Assistant Chief Tim Kreis said calls for medical help often involve spectators.
