Mallika is now in the care of the women and child development department.
MYSURU: Guided over the phone by a doctor from Mumbai, a high school teacher helped deliver a girl at a Mysuru park on Tuesday, saving the mother and her child in the nick of time.
The expectant mother, Mallika, a 35-year-old tribal from Gonikoppal in Kodagu district, was in the park opposite Mini Vidhana Soudha in Nazarabad when she contracted labour pain around 8.45am. Her two other children, a boy aged 4 and a girl aged 2, were also with her when she started bleeding. As she screamed for help, a few passersby and vendors called up ambulances and government hospitals but no help was forthcoming.

Passenger traffic at Mysuru airport goes up | Mysuru News

Representative image
MYSURU: Riding on resumption of business and tourism activities, Mysuru airport is witnessing an increase in air passenger traffic — over 13,000 passengers have flown from here to seven major destinations in south India in February.
Hyderabad tops in passenger traffic volume followed by Chennai. Tourism stakeholders, though disappointed for not getting any financial grant in the state budget for the airport expansion, are expecting further rise in traffic owing to elections and IPL matches.
Airport Authorities of India (Mysuru) director R Manjunath attributed the rise in passenger traffic to their assurance on safe travel post-Unlock. “Through ads, we had told passengers that adequate measures have been taken to keep the infection at bay in airport and on flights, and this clicked. Though the passenger volume has no reached pre-Covid levels, the rate of recovery has been tremendous. There has been an upward trend in the last three months. The rise in Covid cases in Maharashtra and Kerala has impacted a bit. Though there is no flight service to Maharashtra, there is an impact on passenger traffic here,” he explained.

Sloth bear cubs being hand-reared at Mysuru Zoo | Mysuru News

Hale and hearty
MYSURU: When two-day-old sloth bear cubs were abandoned by their mother in the thick forests of Nagarahole Tiger Reserve in mid-January, forest officials did not think that they could survive.
The cubs were just born, and their eyes were yet to open. With no other option, the cubs were shifted to Mysuru Zoo. Today, the cubs are hale and hearty, and crawling about with their eyes wide open, all thanks to the Mysuru Zoo authorities, who took care of the little ones and saved them. The cubs are more than a month old now.
BP Ravi, a senior IFS officer, and member-secretary of the Zoo Authority of Karnataka, said that when the cubs were brought to Mysuru Zoo, they were just two-three days old. They weighed approximately 1.1kg. They were handed over to Mysuru Zoo by the Nagarahole Tiger Reserve director, after their efforts to reunite the cubs with their mother went in vain. Zoo staff took great care of the cubs, and helped them survive by hand-rearing them. Usually, sloth bear cubs open their eyes in their second week after they are bor n.
