Every Golden Globes Best Drama Winner Since 1952 By Joseph Bien-Kahn, Stacker News On 3/1/21 at 8:00 PM EST This year's Golden Globes were unlike any other in its storied history, which began in 1944 when the Hollywood Foreign Press Association gathered at the studios of Twentieth Century-Fox to celebrate the filmmaking achievements of 1943. Yet another noteworthy occasion occurred on this date 15 years ago. On Feb. 14, 2006, New College of Florida hosted a lively public forum. The hot topic: homelessness. The event responded to the National Coalition for the Homeless’ designation of Sarasota as America’s “meanest city.” Sarasota was tagged after the City Commission passed an ordinance authorizing police to arrest homeless people for camping in outdoor public spaces.  Some proponents of the local law simply wanted to sweep away homeless folks. Newly elected local officials tend to overestimate their ability to make big changes in government and underestimate their potential to create a bigger mess. Just look at the three newbies on the Manatee County Commission who, along with an incumbent commissioner, formed a Gang of Four that engaged in a failed effort to abruptly – and without cause – fire the county administrator. The plot was dumb and became dumber as the backstory was revealed. It didn’t achieve its goal and generated chaos. Last month, only days after they were seated on the County Commission, George Kruse, James S...
