verdict to their advantage. good morning, everyone. i m randi kaye. it is 10:00 on the east coast, 7:00 a.m. on the west. we start in colorado, where daylight brings new dangers along the fire lines. the waldo canyon fire has destroyed nearly 350 homes so far, and thousands more are threatened. firefighters have been working around the clock to protect those homes. cnn s rob marciano has been in colorado springs all week for us. rob, the firefighters get a bit of a break overnight with some cooler temperatures, but what s happening now? reporter: well, this time of day is when the personnel for air support begins to filter in and other support crews. they work the ground through the overnight, but this is when things really ramp up. you can see behind me, there s not a lot of smoke. at night, temperatures are cooler, the fire tends to lay down, but certainly, there are some homes and communities that they ve managed to save there. a little bit further to the south, ....

numbers and what it tells us about the economy. right now this morning at 9:00 a.m. eastern time. it s a solid base hit. how s that? not a grand slam, but a base hit for the economy. you had job creation a little better than people had thought and remember the big zero in august, no jobs created in august. well, the government, kyra, came back and upgraded its assessment for what happened in august. now, 57,000 jobs created in august. also, july revised higher, as well. so, when you look at the whole picture. you have an unemployment rate at 9.1% and 103,000 jobs added in the month of september and august and july both increased in terms of the amount of hiring. when we look within the kind of sectors that are hiring, professional and business services. the private sector did a little bit better. you saw the government shedding jobs, but the private sector was hiring in professional and business services and temporary workers, it s a trend we ve seen for more than a y ....

Taken a nose dive. it s sort of the idea of the gentleman s c almost no longer exists. it s no longer gentlemanly. it s a very poor grade. i m a proud c student. you re not going to hear that. well, but you re not in school today. maybe if you were in school today you d feel differently. oh, lord, i m glad i m not in school because i might not be in this space of grade inflation. this puts pressure on standardized tests. right. one consequence of grade inflation is it s harder for employers and grad school admissions committees to distinguish between a mediocre student, a good student and an excellent student. as a result they re having to resort to other types of indicators including, however perfect or imperfect, standardized testing like the lsat and the mcat. catherine, thank you very much. grade inflation. we ve got some statistics behind at least what some are saying is an increase in those numbers of as as you go to public and private schools. thank you. thank you. ....
