Not having enough money in the economy can lead to an economic downturn. This is one reason why monetary policy is important to America’s workers, retirees, and savers. However, there is such a thing as too much money in the system. As with virtually all economic policies, people are better served when the federal government remains neutral than when it actively tries to boost or slow down economic activity based on the preferences of policymakers and politics.
