Communications systems have been turned off. the idea behind it was to allow airlines to be more efficient by quickly identifying mechanical problems. but as an added bonus, it would mean never having to hunt for a missing airplane again. there s literally no further investment in infrastructure that would be required to do this. obviously more s better, but the infrastructure in place now, which is the iridium constellation and the internet are the major pieces that you need to do this job. and the system costs just under $100,000 per plane. it is not required currently by the airline industry. but there is some tracking technology that s soon to be required, right? what s the store y with that. it s a transponder that will transmit to the world the exact location of all the plane. boeing is putting it on all its new planes. the feds require it by 2020. ....

That he was going to the other waypoints that have been outlined by the reuters agencies and others that said the pilot fold a deliberate course. he was saying the only thing we have on our data is the agary wai waypoint. what he didn t say am i looking at the same flight path where we know the transponder went off at 11:19 or 11:21. if that s the case, we already knew that. without the transponder, you don t read those things. one of those things that stands out to me in the press conference, we re pulling satellite, radar increasing air assets, increasing technical support. you would think they d have all of the technical support on hand. awe of those experts on hand already. reporter: well, okay. he s adding to it. they ve got more data maybe. ....

Have to begin there, you have to have a look at the flight crew, the ground crew and many other people who had access to the aircraft. piece it together and see why someone would want to breach the cockpit and take it over. what does it tell you that the maldives report a low flying jet on march 8th, with malaysian airlines marking. i don t know how trustworthy it is, but certainly as much information as we have right now, and it seems to be in the direction we ve been talking about, right? sure, sean, i did see another report earlier this morning about fishermen claiming they saw a low flying aircraft that evening when they were on their fishing boat. we have not seen deeply what was in that cargo hold, could it have been some kind of lethal cargo, could it have been hazardous materials that could have exploded? what we know is that the plane ....

We re now invisible to radar, at least identifying us from the ground. two main systems, but very different how you shut them down. martin, and maybe this is more of a question for your pilot there, mitchell, but why is it possible because i ve gotten this question a lot from viewers. why is it possible to even shut down the transponder. why can pilots have that ability? the only reason that we have an off switch, anderson, is when we re on the ground. after you re on the ground and land and taxi off the runway, you re no longer a factor for any traffic so there s no point in you being on the screen, you turn it off and save the air traffic controllers the hassle of trying to declutter the screen. but never in the air, only once on the ground and the flight is over. richard, the fact that the acars was not functioning, again, we don t know why, what does that tell you? what it tells me is that either it was disabled and degraded or something so ....

You surprised that that phrase was used as plainly and specifically as it was? i m not an aviation expert, so i m reliant on what i ve heard from the people on the various shows commenting on, you know, the level of skill and the deliberatesy that the plane took evasive maneuvers and the transponder was turned off and happened just at this handoff period which would be this window of vulnerability. based on all thal, from the layman s point of view from the aviation perspective, it seeps deliberate. you know, could there be another theory? sure. absolutely. msnbc national security analyst, don borelli. thanks so much. we re going to talk about the mysterious disappearance of flight 370 later in the show with three commercial airline flights. there s a lot of other news to get to ted including what the nra has done, what the nra has to do with the surgeon general. the top law enforcement officer, the top doctor in america, should not be partisan ....
