UK Strain Of COVID-19 Found In Rajasthan: State Government


COVID-19 Rajasthan: "We sent samples for genome sequencing," Rajasthan Health Minister said
Jaipur:
The UK strain of COVID-19 has been found in the samples sent from Rajasthan for genome sequencing, the state government said today.
According to Rajasthan's Health Minister Raghu Sharma, the reports were received a couple of days back.
We had sent samples for genome sequencing. In the samples, UK strain was found, Mr Sharma said.
On the directions of Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, officials have started the process of setting up genome sequencing facility at the Swai Man Singh (SMS) Medical College in Jaipur, he said.
Once we know about the strain and other details, the line of treatment may be updated accordingly, he said.

The UK strain is driving the Covid surge in Delhi, an analysis of samples has revealed. Data released by the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) says over 400 cases of the UK strain and 76 of the Indian double mutant were found in Delhi.
Some 11 per cent samples from across India show "variants of concern".
A total of 1,644 cases of the UK strain have been found in India, 112 cases of the South African strain, one of the Brazilian strain and 732 cases of the double mutant that emerged in India.

The study involved analysing the samples of over 100,000 patients who tested positive for COVID-19 between October and January and were followed up with till mid-February.

The B.1.1.7 variant includes a number of mutations on the spike protein of the virus like N501Y, D614G, A570D, P681H, H69/V70 deletion and Y144 deletion
The study goes on to suggest that, coupled with its higher transmissibility, there is reason to look at whether those who may have only been considered low-risk, presented with more severe symptoms that required hospitalisation

The total number of COVID-19 cases with UK,
South Africa and Brazil variants in the country is now at 242, the government said on Thursday.
Meanwhile, 17,407 new COVID-19 cases and 89 deaths were reported in the country in the last 24 hours.
The country's coronavirus tally has reached 1,11,39,516 including 1,08,26,075 recoveries and 1,57,435 deaths.

With 83,556 active coronavirus infections,
Maharashtra has the highest number of cases in the country. Kerala follows with 46,288 active cases.

The number of people who have tested positive for the UK variant of COVID-19 in India has climbed to 145, the Union Health Ministry said on Thursday.
All these persons have been kept in single room isolation in designated health care facilities by respective state governments, the ministry had said earlier.
Their close contacts have also been put under quarantine.

NEW DELHI: The number of people who have tested positive for the new UK variant of SARS-CoV-2 in the country has climbed to 109, the Union Health Ministry said on Thursday.
"The total number of persons found infected with the new UK variant genome stands at 109 today," the ministry said.
All these people have been kept in single room isolation in designated healthcare facilities by respective state governments, the ministry had said earlier.
