Acknowledging the varied caregiving needs and diverse demands involved, the Ministry said it plans to research and continue exploring ways to better help working caregivers.
Leaves such as childcare leave are currently mandated, while employers are also encouraged to provide enhanced benefits such as paid parental care or child sick leave, Dr. Tan See Leng affirmed.
As of 2020, 19.5% of employers surveyed by MOM voluntarily provided additional paid family care leave, while 27.3% provided additional paid child sick leave (2010: 10.6% and 19% respectively).
This will see the establishment of a new workplace fairness legislation, new Tripartite Guidelines on FWAs, and deeper efforts towards women representation in leadership roles.
