The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department saw an increase in "wildlife-vehicle collisions" as critters flock to roads where melting ice provided much-needed water during the recent cold snap.Education Images/Universal Images Group via Getty
Texas drivers are partially to blame for an increase of wildlife deaths amid the record-breaking cold snap that plagued the state this week.
While our animals, mammals and marine life are acclimated to our warmer weather, the ever-increasing extreme weather events battering our state are death knells for some of these vulnerable critters.
We still don't have a full picture of how this historic freeze affected the ecosystem, but the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department released a preliminary report detailing what we've lost so far.
