Should we take Roblox seriously as a game discovery platform?

The following blog post, unless otherwise noted, was written by a member of Gamasutra’s community.
The thoughts and opinions expressed are those of the writer and not Gamasutra or its parent company.

[The GameDiscoverCo game discovery newsletter is written by ‘how people find your game’ expert & GameDiscoverCo founder Simon Carless, and is a regular look at how people discover and buy video games in the 2020s.]
Well, we find ourselves here again, don’t we? Reading another GameDiscoverCo newsletter and wondering how the authors pack so much game discovery and platform information into just two newsletters a week. (The main method: we consume a greater percentage of the Internet than any one person should.) ....

Roblox's Adopt Me devs are starting a studio to "minimize overwork and burnout"

Roblox’s Adopt Me devs are starting a studio to “minimize overwork and burnout”
If you – like just about everyone else over the age seven – are still trying to figure out what Roblox is, the short version is that it’s basically a game development platform. Some of the top creators on Roblox are getting big payouts, and the developers behind the biggest game on the platform are funneling that success into a new development studio designed to help keep their team healthy.
The folks behind Adopt Me have announced the launch of Uplift Games, a proper studio with 40 developers spread across North America and the UK. Uplift is billed as a “remote-first, flexible-working studio,” and the idea of working to “minimize overwork and burnout” is a big part of the company’s introductory press release, and it’s part of the studio’s pitch to existing fans. ....

Uplift Games: Roblox's 60m user smash-hit Adopt Me! has a new parent | Business News

Adopt Me! is a Roblox smash hit. A truly ludicrous success, that targets a slighter younger than usual age group, allowing them to build a home, explore a world, and look after a wide variety of pets. A formula that has let it hit over 1m concurrents and over 222bn lifetime plays.
Despite all of the game’s success, we’d challenge anyone to name its developers, who to date are largely known informally as Team Adopt Me! It’s something that even Josh Ling, director of business operations, is happy to admit.
“When I joined the team in June 2019, there were only three of us. Since then, we’ve scaled to 40 people we’ve been working under a series of entities that nobody’s heard of. Not only has nobody heard of us as a team, but nobody’s heard of Roblox. A lot of people don’t understand what Roblox is, especially if they don’t have children in their life.” ....

NewFissy, Bethink, and the Roblox Adopt Me! team start a new studio

The team behind
Adopt Me! one of the most popular games on the Roblox platform is launching a studio called Uplift Games.
Josh Ling, director of business opportunities at Uplift Games, told Polygon that the decision to begin work as a studio “reflects that growth and our ambition to continue to provide our audience with AAA experiences within the Roblox Metaverse.”
Previously,
Adopt Me!’s developers had been working in a group calling itself Dreamcraft or Team Adopt Me. Uplift Games will continue to work on
Adopt Me! as it develops future, unannounced titles. But the team has not announced any plans to make non-Roblox games. It will “continue to add to our portfolio of Roblox games,” Ling said. ....
