Hyatt Hotels Corporation (NYSE: H) today announced plans for the continued growth of its brand portfolio in Asia Pacific with a robust pipeline of landmark luxury and lifestyle hotels and resorts that are expected to open in late 2022 and 2023, ideally timed to coincide with the emerging rebound of leisure travel in the region. This includes the strategic entry of several brands into new markets, such as the arrival of The Unbound Collection by Hyatt brand in Japan, the Andaz brand in Thailand, and the Hyatt Centric brand in Southeast Asia with a new hotel in Malaysia.

As expected since the end of July, demand is trending down, but the week-on-week (WoW) decrease for 21-27 August 2022 continued to be less than what was observed in previous years. More importantly, this was the highest demand ever recorded for this specific week dating back to 2000. Weekly demand was equal to 2019, but that level was easier to meet because that was the week ahead of the Labor Day holiday that year.

U.S. hotel room demand for the week ending 23 July 2022 reached its seasonal apex with more than 28.4 million sold. That was the country’s highest weekly total for rooms sold since mid-2019 and the 10th largest weekly amount of the past 22 years. As we have stated over the past several weeks, this annual demand peak was fully expected as it previously occurred during this week (week 30) in 15 of the past 22 years. While strong, this year’s week 30 was not the best week 30 ever.

Laos is becoming an increasingly important part of the tourism and transport chain in south-east Asia and should aim to become a tourist destination unlike any other. Lao National Tourism Administration (LNTA) predicted that Laos will have 4.1 million tourists by 2020 however the tourists volume was down with 886K in 2020. Laos government closed international borders in April 2020 due to the pandemic, and tourism is negatively impacted until today.
