Frank E. Strobel was born on a homestead northwest of Russellville on Dec. 10, 1886. While growing up, he worked alongside several siblings on their parents' farm and studied at the local Van Pool School. Yet, as the years passed, he made the decision to move to the Pacific Northwest and was later drafted into the U.S. Army.
Strobel is a surname deeply embedded in several communities throughout Mid-Missouri and represents an extended family with an interesting and unique legacy.
In October 1918, shortly before the armistice that brought an end to World War I and, in the midst of the Spanish influenza, a 23-year-old William Schmoeger purchased a farm northwest of Russellville from his uncle.
