The Supreme Court and High Court judges would no longer need political clearance for their private visits abroad as the Delhi High Court has struck down an Office Memorandum issued by the Centre that mandated such a nod, describing the condition as uncalled for in view of the high offices the judges
A petitioner had held that the requirement infringes upon judges' right to privacy and also diminishes the high offices they hold.
The court noted that judges' travel plans are known the moment a request is made for issuance of Visa and therefore such a condition was uncalled for given the high offices they are holding.
