The Supreme Court of India on Wednesday (April 24) said it is not the controlling authority of the apex election body. The top court added that it cannot dictate the functioning of Election Commission, which is a constitutional authority.  Supreme Court made these remarks during the hearing on a bunch of petitions seeking thorough cross-verification of votes cast on Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) with paper slips generated through the VVPAT [Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail] system. 

On April 18, the top court reserved its verdict on the batch of pleas

“We're really good at universities at doing things in silos. There's an economics department, there’s a biology department, there's the medical school. What we're trying to do is connect that work and ask that question of how do we have well-being for all,” Erickson said.

Officials said that the blaze does appear to be suspicious.
